Care Inspectorate Report 2020
Dorward House has 32 bedrooms, laid out over two floors, connected by a lift and several flights of stairs. As it’s on a bigger scale than most people are used to, we have ‘themed corridors’, improved pictorial signage and new lighting installed throughout, to help you find your way around. All bedrooms have en-suite facilities, and nine of these have a shower. There are also two assisted bathrooms on each floor. To make it seem like home, when you move in, we encourage you to bring small, personal ‘touches’, such as treasured photographs, special ornaments or small pieces of furniture.
We have three lounges where you can spend time with other residents, family or visitors, and where “activities” take place at various times of day, as well as a quiet lounge for visitors, and a comfortable tea room, set out as a kitchen with table and chairs. An area for a quiet chat or a noisy birthday party with lots of fun!
In addition, we have a large dining room, where all set meals are served and is a venue for our larger scale social events, as well as a quiet library upstairs, not forgetting our hairdresser’s/barber’s room on the ground floor.
You are able to keep your local doctor and we support in-house visits from podiatrists, physios, dentists, opticians and the community nursing team.
Outside, we have the Jean Adam Pavilion, where you might enjoy a light snack or lunch in summer, or be a guest at a private party. The colourful and extensive gardens can be enjoyed at any season, but are memorable on a warm summer day when eating ice cream!
We have an additional eight bedroom facility, purpose built for individuals with more complex needs, where we can provide additional levels of care and support. In this most recently built part of Dorward House, we have a large, airy central lounge and dining area, small adjoining kitchen and all the fully en-suite bedrooms are nearby. There is a quiet, cosy sitting room and a beautiful conservatory, with access to its own large fully enclosed garden.
Staying in the quieter environment of Fairview, our residents enjoy the numerous everyday activities that take place in there or can choose to join in the fun in the main part of the house.
This specially designed part of the house allows our residents to continue carrying out daily living activities, just as they have always done - such as washing dishes, doll therapy (or taking the ‘baby’ for a walk around the garden in the pram), dusting or digging in the garden.
