Dorward House prides itself in being able to provide varied sitting and dining areas. Apart from the main sitting/dining room we have two sun lounges, one on each of the two wings of the building, a quiet lounge, and a library. We also have a separate smoking lounge to comply with the Fire Safety (Scotland) Regulations 2006.
Dorward House has 28 mainstream bedrooms all with toilet and wash hand basin en-suite, five of which also have showers. The rooms are comfortable and attractively furnished. Residents are encouraged to bring personal items to ensure homeliness. Electrical equipment, eg televisions are welcome if accompanied by a certificate of electrical safety. Bedrooms are all equipped with call bell systems, as are all communal areas of the house. There are also phone points in all bedrooms and residents can arrange for a phone to be installed at their own cost.
All assisted bathrooms are equipped with hi-lo baths, showers, and are easily accessible for people of ranging needs. We also have numerous pieces of equipment to assist with the moving and handling of residents and to ensure safety during personal care tasks.
Within the main house we also have a hairdressing room and the services of our own hairdresser who visits twice weekly. However, if you prefer the services of your own private hairdresser, this can also be accommodated, or we will assist you to access the local hairdresser.
All meals are provided as part of your care, and are provided and prepared to a high standard by our own cook. There is a choice of menu and meals can be served in the dining room, or if requested, in your own room. We will ensure that drinks and snacks are provided throughout the day and on request. All dietary requirements will be catered for and nutritional needs met.
All laundry requirements are undertaken by laundry assistants within the home, and to this end, we request that personal clothing is marked with the residents name. If articles require dry-cleaning, this cost must be met by the residents themselves.
We have a varied social activity programme arranged and provided by staff themselves. In addition we have an entertainments programme of concerts and functions throughout the year.
The residents committee meets regularly throughout the year, thereby participating in the everyday running of the home and the planning of activities.
Televisions are provided in some of the lounges for residents use and points are available in all bedrooms.
Residents relatives and friends are welcome to visit at anytime and we will actively encourage you to become involved in your relatives life and participate in the running of the home and the suggesting and organising of social events. We also value your feedback and suggestions on the service we provide and would encourage you to come along to relatives/friends meetings and become involved in the development of our service.
